BG results rising during the night since using pump

Hi

I have been using the pump for a month now, and still working closely with the pump specialist to get the correct basal rate. Before my pump, my BG results would always lower during the night meaning I would ensure it is around 8mmol before bed so I dont wake up with a hypo. Bt since having the pump, its always hyper in the morning. I can go to bed with BG between 5-8 and wake up with it at 14-18

Has this pattern happened to anyne else since moving onto pump therapy?

I have already increased my basal rate slightly and will be sending my results to nurse on saturday for advice.

Any ideas would be much appreciated

Thanks

Hi ya, this happened to me too, in my first week, I had to do overnight fasting tests (basically set your alarm for 2am, 4am and 6am) and try and pin down when the rise is happening. I've upped my basal between 4 and 6am and this seemed to help :D

Me too! I have adjusted my basal rate over night...by abot 15 %, although I slowly tweaked it to make sure I didn't go hypo. When they set you off on a pump, they have to err on teh side of caution, and advise slightly lower rates, so youdon't spend all your time hypo, and you then have to tweak the rates to suit you!
I am jealous your specialist is looking after you though. I started the pump over a month ago now..and will see teh consulant for teh first time in July  Just as well there is some good advice around on teh interenet eh!

I'm still having a few problems with my basals(more than likely the boluses) from working quite an active job it invalidates fasting test(too much running around brings it down so you cant include that result) but I found that 2/3 nights fasting and adjusting for the changes, I do my tests hourly over 12 hours (10pm-10am) and go from there, adjust it and see how it goes, if not another night(in theory gets better each turn) but that's my way of doing it.

I always had a dip at 4am where I used to drop 2mmol/l and come up by 3mmol/l by 8am.

@sugar2 you should be having at least monthly pump sessions, but that might be a good sign that your doing well and if you do have any problems you can just make an earlier appointment.

Hi Sparkle,

Ive been on the pump for a month now and my bg is still very unstable. I always woke during the night to top up before pumping but since being on the pump my night readings are through the roof, as much as 27 recently. Today it was 19 at 1am and again at 5am. Working with my trainer to get this down by increasing the basal between 10pm and 6am. I think it just proves why you need a pump.

Monthly pump session to start hmmm

I started pumping almost 2 years ago, 2 days of training with starting insulin on the first day of training... Then a meet with pump nurse a month later and consultant in the September!!! Mind you with saying that I could contact the pump team anytime I wanted if I needed help

@NaPsTer

I set up my 2 & 3 rd profiles for work, active job as a dog handler... to work out my best setting, I used the TBR tested regular, to build my picture and then worked my adjustments from that followed by several tweaks.. Not perfect control but the job can be dynamic as depending on what type of dogs we got in... Biggest problem will always be hypo's got down to infrequent and to the point where, if one happens it low level, and easy treated while I'm washing the dogs foods bowls..

I gave up making a 2nd upward profiles, problem with my job pretty much same as yours by the sounds of it is you never know what your gonna be doing. My job either means sitting in a control centre doing button pushing or briskly walking around huge office floors/flying down stairs or both even. So in the end when I start doing the running around usually 15mins at a time I give a TBR of 0% which works quite well for 2 floors. If I was to set up profiles they would be either well off target as there is no time constant :(
But otherwise I meant in general, to get a day to day profile I need to find the time to sit down and simply fast and figure it all out
