I had a fbg of 6.7 this morning after fried egg & bacon at lunch time I now have a reading of 6.4 ( 3 cups of tea between waking & lunch with semi sk milk) is it feasibly milk thats keeping it up ? or am I expecting too much too soon ?

Hi angua

To me that's a really good result.

It's below the magic 7.8 and very below the nice guidlelines of 8.5.

Well done

Hi Angua. Can you tell us how much exercise you are getting?

Hi angua!

Which type of diabetes do you have? I am assuming Type 2, no insulin. There are a couple of things that might help you. Firstly, in the absence of carbs, your body will convert about 36% of protein to glucose (according to Dr Bernstein). Personally, I find my body converts eggs very quickly. (I am LADA and take insulin - I have to use 1.5 units for a cheese omellette even though there is about 1g carb in that and normally I take insulin at 1 unit per 8-10g carb). Secondly, the milk in your tea will have an effect. I cannot tolerate milk without jabbing insulin - it has about 4.5g sugar (lactose) per 100ml so 3 cups of tea with 30ml milk per cup will have given you about 4g carb - for me, that would keep my BG up. I think many Type 2s would get away with that, but it depends how sensitive you are to carb and how much insulin you are producing and managing to use (i.e. how insulin resistant you are).

if you promise not to laugh ... I'm up to 35mins walking moderate pace - can't do every day yet (bad knees) but every other day

smidge - I think I'll give milk a miss for a day or two and see what effect that has

I am not sure what the problem is or if there is a problem.

Isnt 6.4 a good reading? why do you want it lower?

Why wouldn't we want it lower? I like mine as low as I can get it. 6.4 is an exceptionally good figure, but nothing wrong in trying to get it lower.

I agree defren, but as its only been a few months, I think angua may be being a bit hard on herself.
