BG testing causing anxiety

I know how you feel. I get really ticked off if I forget or don't get a chance to test during the day (at work).

My doctor tried to cut down my strips and I told her that I would get anxious if I could not test!!I still get my strips, 50 per month on repeat.

I have ordered another box, plus some lancets. No one has contacted me to tell me I can't have them yet.

Every box I get from the NHS is one less I have to buy :| I will get anxious when I have to spend lots of money, I can only just afford this.

I find the UK system of supply of BG testing strips appallingly backward. In Australia once the GP has made the diagnosis through the FGTT they will sign a registration form, you get a card from the National Diabetes Services Scheme which you then take to your chemist where you buy your meter, lancets and strips at a special subsidised rate. We are not limited to how many we can buy in a year and I am currently paying about $AUS13.00 for 2 x 50 strips.
It would be distressing to have to limit your testing according to what your doctor thinks you should be doing as some of them seem to treat their diabetic patients as if they have reduced brain function, not diabetes!

My usual GP is very good and always prescribes me around 100 - 200 strips per month.

One time I had to see another GP in the Practice. He refused to prescribe them telling me I didn't need to test more than a couple of times a week ? :shock:

We had an amicable little 'chat' with me giving my reasons why I thought he was wrong to deny me the opportunity to keep control of my Diabetes. He seemed to get very 'anxious' ? He then decided to put the strips on repeat for me. Nice chap. :twisted:
