Hi. Last week I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. I was not surprised by this due to previous tests and because I emotionally binge eat on sugar and carbs. I have been given the opportunity to control blood sugars by diet and without medication at this time. I had been 'good' for the weeks between the test and results, eating low carb, no sugars etc but now I’m really struggling with obsessively craving sugary foods. I have given in and binged on excessive amounts carbs and sugar a few times since I was diagnosed and know I cannot continue to do this. Any advice on how to manage these two contradictory conditions? Thanks.

Your HbA1c reading? If you are truly pre diabetic, the LAST thing you need is to binge to the point that you cross the threshold. Permanent regret

I think you might be better withdrawing carbs slowly so you get used to it easier , try lowering the carbs slowly maybe ? I'm not an expert I just know this works as I have done it myself .

My hba1c was 59. I know I cannot binge as it really messes your blood sugars, but I can’t seem to stop. I regret it every time I binge, especially now. I’m on anti depressants and see a therapist for anxiety/depression and she is aware of my diagnosis and eating issues. I have a double appointment with my GP next week to talk about my anxiety generally as it is sky high right now.

Seriously you will be fine, my hba1c was 106 last November and it dropped to 59 in 11 weeks, I know how anxiety feels as I suffer that too , i even have a phobia of medication so can't take anything for it .

When is your next a1c due ?

Then your path is clear .... you do not need sugars so time to correct it. Tough advice, but that's the truth

If you really need something sweet, lookup fat bombs. Lookup keto bounty bars. Don't make too many at once.

If you can manage LCHF you will find that your taste buds change and sugary stuff becomes too sweet.

Lots of stuff online. Google keto muffins. There is stuff you can keep in the freezer.

I don't really know anything about eating disorders so if my advice is inappropriate, please forgive me. There are all sorts of really nice keto snacks on the web. You just have to know what to look for.

Obviously you know that eating carbs is not great for us but perhaps you can find better choices. Good luck.
