Birthday ideas


Is that the place in Somerset just off the M5 ? Sounds like fun to me!

Alongside an activity birthday surprise thing .

How about something VERY personal to your precious father .
A letter or poem about who he is to you and your family .

My dad has mine in his wallet and a copy in his diary I know he often reads them
He is 85 and a half years old [as he says ]
I am strongly aware - one day I wont always have him around

So whilst you all have the chance to express your thoughts and love - It is precious time to do so .
A handmade card is always nice - but the gift of something more personal as a letter/poem speaks the deeper depth
of your own words with a different clarity ...

Your father sounds a FABULOUS character and personality :thumbup:
I have so enjoyed reading your posts about the things he did and still does .
The older generations are FABULOUS PEOPLE with enriched lives lived to the fullest .
This is when I realise there is still much 'more' for us all to still 'do'

Dad went to digger land with my nephews when they were small and digger/forklift obsessed. - When they were little, Dad was known as Bampa Forkie, ( their other grandfather was Bampa Rabbits! ) because he used to spend hours giving them rides on the forklifts and JCB.

Anna, I love the idea of a poem/letter. - I wouldn't know where to start! I'll have to think about that one.

Don't think an iPad would be a good idea. - Dad's been banned from all things computer since he decided to "have a little play" with one of the CNC's in the yard and erased the operating system! I do let him play with my MacBook, but big stonemason hands covered in granite dust will effectively kill off anything with a touch screen!

Dad said tonight that for his birthday meal he'd like to go to his favourite truck stop outside Chippenham. - I'd like that too, if only to see the look on my aunt and uncles faces!! LOL! Fussy is not the word! Last time they came to dinner, they ate second and third helpings of everything and then lectured me on how various things I'd cooked - and there were a LOT of choices, - clashed with whatever medications they were taking! - Note, they didn't go for the non "problematic" choices!

So, the meal is sorted.

Hi All .

When I got married back in May 1984 .
I hand wrote letters to my mother and my dad plus my brother also .
Thanking them for loving me unconditionally and putting up with me too .

Left them under their pillows to find at the end of my wedding day when
I had jetted off out of their lives onto my honeymoon with a bloke who
was now to be my husband for the rest of my life .

They all were able to read these very personal letters in private .
Read , keep reflect my own personal words to them 'each' ...

The run up to the wedding was a very busy time and left me little time to
REALLY convey or express the real appreciation I felt for them all .
In terms of depth , truth , honesty , love etc ...

They have ALL kept these letters since too .

My brother flies model helicopters, so I know there's a lot of that going. You'd have to look up details, but would that suit?

Your dad is really an creative man with number of different experiences ....
i will suggest you to give him some interesting books or tools which they likes most for example you said that they love to building things, fixing things then you may provide some books or tools related to their interest... :roll: i think you understand what i want to say...Thanks
 
Thanks Roby, yes, I got what you were saying and you've given me an idea. - Somewhere, Dad has some really really old tools. They've got to be a couple of hundred years old. He was talking about having them put into a box frame. I'm going to see if I can find them and get the framing done.

Hi sounds like you're sorted for an idea but just incase how about a computer based flight simulator. These are really cool for anyone who likes flighing - gives you the chance to pilot Boeing planes!

Do you live anywhere near Poole, Dorset? Whilst on holiday there in August, we went to Bovingdon Tank Museum. Ideal for tank lovers with hands on exhibitions, shows, etc. I believe they do different gift packages as well. Last time I looked it was all on their website. Good Luck

Hi, both! Justflight.com sell it for your PC. Alternatively have a look at virtualaviation.co.uk or flyipilot.co.uk for airports where you can go to use a simulator. By the looks of it virtual aviation do gift vouchers.
 
For my Mum's 80th this year my brother in law, who is a computer wiz, compiled a beautiful printed album of all her loved ones when they were young and as they are now.
She absolutely adores it and looks at it every day.
A lovely gift for family orientated people.
