Can anybody help me understand this a little better as am a bit confused. These are the results from my latest Hba1c for cholesterol.

Serum cholesterol: 5.7mmol/L
Serum HDL cholesterol level: 1.81 mmol/L

If my total is 5.7 and the HDL is 1.81 does this mean that the difference is the LDL?

The total cholesterol is made up of the HDL, the LDL and 46% of the triglycerides (UK measurements)

Probably gave you those two figures because the ratio is the important one.

Total/HDL should be 3.5 or less.

You ratio is 3.15 so that seems to be O.K.

As I'm a registered HCP I cannot give you advice; but I could suggest that you visit a website that you may find interesting, particularly one of the books mentioned. The website is a blog written by a practising GP and health sceptic https://drmalcolmkendrick.org/. He discusses cardiovascular disease and diabetes.
