Bitter melon

I tried this in Hong Kong last year, it was stirfried with some other veg in a dish that was unlike anything id tried before Grazer.

The chinese belive it has many healing properties, and the waiter kept saying, for sugar for sugar!!!!

I told him I coulnt eat sugar, when one of our hosts at the meal explained she had ordered it for me to try as it helps diabetics....

It was so kind of her that I did try

Not something Id choose to try again euch

Yes there MAYBE some truth to it if you read here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bitter_melon

extract of which states

In 2007, a study by the Philippine Department of Health determined that a daily dose of 100 mg per kilogram of body weight is comparable to 2.5 mg/kg of the anti-diabetes drug glibenclamide taken twice per day

Interesting, certainly a better bet than Patches rocket fuel imo :)

I did a search of the forum and it has come up several times before, but the same thing was said that it didn't taste very nice. It is available in capsule form from a well known American supplement company. Not tried it myself though.

Patch's rocket fuel??

In a thread yesterday, can't remember which one so hunt down his post's.

Think it was the reference to hydrogen peroxide? BUT, back to bitter melon if I may. If you check it on the internet there is quite a lot of serious medical research it seems. Some good articles on improving BGs significantly etc; has anyone any proper inside info or knowledge on this?

I think that it works because it makes you feel so very sick, ( and a numb tongue ) that for the rest of the day you cant face food so your bgs go down .....

A supplement for it may be a lot more palatable
