Being type 1, my health and what really grates me are false people who make themselves out to be something when their not
I won't go on too much but I spent 5 hours having a pre assessment for my operation next Tuesday on my knee and only to be told I can't have my pump all because the senior nurse who assessed me had never seen or heard of much about them. I'm spitting feathers, so we know what'll happen my blood sugars will rise too high and there'll want to keep me in. I've posted on the forum before they want to give me a general when it can be done under a local or spinal block, apparently I've got to discuss this on the day with the annethatist and doctor. I feel fed up.
On a brighter note today is my training day for my Insight pump at 8.30 :-) Yeaah, I do like a gadget I'm so excited just hope I can visually read it not like when I had to give my combo back because I couldn't :-):-D

Tell them you want to keep the pump on. I told the knock out man this when I had surgery. He just grinned and said how does it work. So showed him then cheekily told him to keep his mitts off of it as it was mine. NICE guidelines are now stating pumps stay on during surgery so peeps have to get up to date sooner rather than later.

Thanks I've just had my traing for my Insight in one word "Simple" just like using my iPhone apart from fiddly battery cap on pump but it was really good so that's being ordered today:) I was only there 30 minutes I suppose the 15 years of pump using helped and much easier to use than the combo, I can see this quite well also. They said about the op next Tuesday I shouldn't come off the pimp as I'll just go into DKA If their not sure to ring the pump clinic so I'm going to fight my cause as I am well controlled and I don't see any problems:banghead::banghead:

I had three GA’s last year as some extensive zapping of my eyes was needed due to retinopathy.

I stayed on my pump during all three – The person that makes the ‘pump staying on’ decision is the anethiatist. Your BM during the op is their responsibility. Once I explained that my pump would just tick along giving me my basal rate and my BM’s should be fairly stable they were happy – In fact, all three anethiatist kept my Dexcom CGM and used it to keep an eye on my BM during the op’s.

At the end of the day, keeping your pump makes life easier for the anethiatist as they do not have to put a line in & set-up a sliding scale. The assessing nurse does not make the keep pump / loose pump decision.

Bl**dy Hospital after yesterday's performance I've just had s call to say they've cancelled next Tuesday until I've seen a cardiologist and some more tests done,
Flipping brilliant :-(

That's bad luck, did they pick something up in the pre-op checks, I know when I last had a operation they did a ECG trace.

This goes to a slight imperfection in last weeks ECG even though yesterday's was normal and my GP referring ME to a cardiologist so I mentioned it yesterday airing on caution and that's what's done it, also seeing they want to give me a general. When they phoned this evening I also said about keeping my pump also I wish for either s spinal block/local anaesthetic so I've now got to discuss this with Consultant & Anaethatist

Suppose they have to be cautious but its frustrating when you just want the operation over with, hope they get you in soon rather than later MB.
