Bleary Eyesight

Hi folks

I am on the following medications: Metformin 500 mg x 2 daily Telmisartan 40 mgs (for blood pressure) and simvastatin (to lower cholestrol). All since diagnosis just before Christmas for Type 2.

My eyesight has been checked at the Diabetic Clinic and the Glaucoma Clinic and all is ok. But over the past few weeks probably since late Jan/early Feb I am finding my eyes are struggling to focus on small print, water more and are quite sore working on the computer.

Has anyone else reported this as a side effect from the tablets I am taking?

this can be the effect of your blood sugar coming down to safe levels. WWhat levels do you have and what were they before?
I'm not aware of medication causing this

i've been having the same thing but it's not the tablets its the diabeties, one of the experts can tell you more, shan x

My levels were up in the 10 -15range at diagnosis

I have been testing myself and they have dropped significantly - especially since low carbing. They are on average around 6 ish with odd spike at 11 when I have had carbs. So if they are going lower that could be a positive? side effect?

Hi MaggieAnn,
As others have said, if your blood sugar levels are high then this could be the problem. Your blood pressure medication may also have something to do with it. One of the less documented side effects of A.R.B.'s is blurred vision as is Simvastatin. If this is the case then your G.P. needs to be aware.
Hope this helps,
Catherine.

That fact that your sugar levels are around 6 suggests that there is another cause for your blurry vision, possibly side effects of medications as mentioned but the doctor is better able to check this our as he /she has all your medical history.

Saw - through bleary eyes - my GP today. He was well impressed with my blood sugar readings since I started low carbing and suggests that my eyes are reacting to the changes - positive changes in my diet and that they will settle. I notice another post on the site suggests eyesight changes and to leave any purchase of new glasses until things settle so I will get my glasses checked later in the year.

Although he was really pleased with my graph of blood sugar levels and the results (despite the advice of the nurse to eat more carbs which I have been ignoring and not to test) he encouraged me to keep doing what was obviously working, not get too anxious about the spikes when I have extra carbs as overall the levels are excellent and considered not dangerously high when they do spike at 13 (my highest reading) which was a one off and any other spikes are lower at around 10 or less. He liked my results but did not think I needed to continue testing as often and hence no prescription strips :( Guess I have now found which foods are not for me and so that is reasonable at the moment. Lets see how I progress. But I can certainly see now that low carbing is the way forward for me. :D
