Isn't insulin and blood something bad?No. It happens to most of us every once in a while, just like we sometimes get a bruise from injecting.
Lantus in a small blood vessel can be very nasty. With other insulins it's not a problem. If it was your Lantus, check your BG now. If it hasn't dropped like a stone by now (at least half an hour after injecting), you're perfectly fine!Isn't insulin and blood something bad?
Why Lantus exactly?Lantus in a small blood vessel can be very nasty. With other insulins it's not a problem. If it was your Lantus, check your BG now. If it hasn't dropped like a stone by now (at least half an hour after injecting), you're perfectly fine!
Lantus insulin is made slow acting by doing something to it that makes it react to fatty tissue (or something like that, I don't remember the exact science). It then forms some sort of chrystals I think, which are then slowly absorbed by the body, releasing the insulin. Why Lantus exactly?
Can you tell me exactly what happened? I think I experienced something similar onceLantus insulin is made slow acting by doing something to it that makes it react to fatty tissue (or something like that, I don't remember the exact science). If Lantus comes directly in the blood stream, it doesn't have time to form those chrystals, hence it's released right away, just like short acting insulin. Bad news, as we usually inject a lot more Lantus in one go than short-acting.
I experienced one of those 'Lantus lows', and after I googled enough to find out what the hell happened I was scared s*******s for the remaining 3 days until I got my DN to prescribe me a different insulin.
That said, lots of people use Lantus for years and years whithout problems.
About 20 minutes after injecting I was dropping fast. I ate and ate, sweated like a monsoon, still ate and drank undiluted lemonade, sitting naked in front of the fan, wanted to lay down and close my eyes for just a second but knew I couldn't as I knew I had to keep eating and testing, closed my eyes anyway, opened them and tested again. Still hypo, so ate some more and tested some more until I seemed reasonably safe and I really couldn't stay awake much longer. Only found out in the morning that there were two hours missing in my every ten minutes testing. I guess I was lucky I managed to take a lot of food before those missing two hours. Can you tell me exactly what happened? I think I experienced something similar once
