Subject: finger-prick testing

Why is my blood often a lot darker first thing in the morning than the rest of the day?

Also, why is is more viscous at that time? Dehydration?

At some other times it's really thin and won't stop leaking after a finger-prick?

Anyone else noticed this?

I do think a lot is to do with dehydration, this would explain the viscous nature of the blood after fasting overnight.

Blood is always thicker when you wake up because you are partially hydrated.
Your bladder is full and you haven't emptied it and you also haven't drank anything for several hours.

In my experience the lower I am the more viscous my blood appears to be. I can usually tell if a count is going to be good just by looking at the blood droplet.

Interesting posts - learned a bit here .
Thanks guys :)

Really funny timing.... I was only wondering this morning why sometimes my blood looks WAY darker and less "runny" than other times.... I *think* this tends to happen when I'm a bit on the low side - though possibly it's just when I'm a bit dehydrated.... I've not really monitored it as it doesn't happen that often - which is why I really notice when it is dark!

Anyway - interesting to see others notice differences too :-)
