Do they routinely check BG levels when donating blood?

I ask because I regularly gave blood before diagnosis 10 months ago. Last time donation was about a year beforehand.... No indications of diabetes beforehand.

Would they have told me if I had highish BG levels?

Diagnosed T2 in sept 2013, BS levels 20+. BMI 22, age 58. Requested a GAD test in November, came back very high 2,000+, doc said I would be T1 within weeks, but presently still LADA. On a LcHf diet taking no insulin or medication, and striving to keep my BS readings as low as possible in order to keep as many insulin making pancreas beta cells as possible for as long as I can.

Don't know about the UK, but in Australia they don't test BG, only haemoglobin because they have limits - too low and they won't take your blood. It's a handy test for me as I've had low ferritin in the past. If they won't take my blood, it's time to see the GP.

Here in Canada they don't test your glucose levels, no reason to since diabetics on medication such as insulin are not allowed to donate blood to start with.
