Blood finger test

Hi unsure what's happening but my blood test keeps going to high would salad cream from a sandwich or orange increase sugars was 11 at breakfast banana after lunch 15.7 turkey sandwich with salad cream and an orange any advice or help please
 
More likely to be the bread. Lidl do a very low carb, high protein roll which would help. Hellmans full fat mayo is a better choice than salad cream. Fruit will always raise my BG
 
The bread, banana and orange are the most likely causes of raising the glucose in your blood from what you've said you had. Salad cream will vary but most brands will contain at least small amounts of carbs per small serving.
 
Oh thanks didn't think would be the bread I used hovis so what would be a better choice no lidl near me xx

So, don't know which loaf of Hovis you have but a single slice of Medium Wholemeal is average 15g of carb. They sell a loaf branded as Nimble which is 8g of carb per slice which would immediately half that.

When you say high in the morning are you meaning before breakfast (when you wake)? Bananas have probably around the highest carbohydrate content of any fruit (and I think the amount increases the longer you leave them after buying).

Can you tell us which diabetes meds you are on? (It helps if you also add this to your profile and signature) as this can make a big difference to the responses you get.

Salad cream is full of sugar. Real mayo (Hellmans) has 0 carbs
Sandwich means bread - not a good idea
Oranges not a good idea
Banana very bad idea

This of course, depends on your meds.

That is exactly what is making your BG rise in the mornings. Sadly the NHS don't always give us the best advice. The Eatwell plate may suit non diabetics but all those carbs aren't so great for us.
It's good that you have taken readings and noticed what is happening.
Have a good look around the forum threads and check out the low carb options.

The Liraglutide is a drug that stimulates insulin production. This means that if you want to reduce your blood sugar levels by reducing your carbohydrate and fruit consumption (and this is really the only way), your body will require less insulin as there will be less glucose in your blood stream. As Liraglutide forces the pancreas to produce extra insulin, you may find you have too much insulin and your levels may get a bit too low. This would require you to have your dose reduced, but only after discussing this with your nurse.

Your DN obviously hasn't clue about diabetes - sad. Bananas are a No-No due to the high carb content and toast is a carb as well although 1 slice should be OK. Eggs and bacon are a good alternative.

Oh dear yet another DN that needs educating in the dietary needs of patients with diabetes. Although saying that the doctor did my BG test one morning shortly after diagnosis and said it was a little high and what had I eaten for breakfast, I told him just a large banana cup of tea and a slice of toast. He just told me to come back in three months instead of six for another HbA1C, no mention of all those carbs i'd consumed for breakfast. Not until I came here did I find out about cutting carbs to lower by blood glucose
 
when I saw DC last my blood was 17.8 she did not seem concerned just said I hhavd to eat breakfast hbc1 up from 84 to 89 again she wasn't bothered its madness she don't seem to listen

She should have been bothered. That is high, and will get higher if you follow her advice. Have a good read round all the forum and see how others are managing to reduce their levels. You will see it is by reducing carbs and eating to what your meter tells you. All she will do is increase your medication, but if you take charge and control matters, you can reduce your medication.
 
my DN is also diabetic but still advises MUST have some carbs with every meal! no wonder I am loosing weight and she has put some on over a year! Low carb diet is working for me even if i do fall off the wagon sometimes.

I was diagnosed T2 on 7th Feb with HbA1c of 98 and BG at 12.5. After a lot of reading on here (nothing from my doctor yet), I committed to an LCHF lifestyle and started BG testing. I have had the SD Codefree and TEE 2 monitors for a few days (for comparative purposes) .. tested with both and the readings have never been more than 0.1 mmol apart. My results have been good (I think) based on what has happened so far ...

Carb Intake: (started on Feb 17th - aiming for 60g to 80g per day)
17th 87g : 18th 112g : 19th 97g : 20th 53g : 21st 103g : 22nd 47g : 23rd 49g : 24th 46g

Weight: 106.1kg at diagnosis Feb 7th - 101.4kg Feb 24th
BP: 149/101 at diagnosis Feb 7th - 121/71 Feb 24th

BG Monitoring (started on Feb 22nd)
22nd Fasting 5.7 : Pre-pr 6.3 : Post-pr 5.9
23rd Fasting 6.0 : Pre-pr 5.6 : Post-pr 6.2
24th Fasting 6.0 : Pre-pr 6.1 : Post-pr 6.5
