Blood glucose 1 hour after eating?

I was just diagnosed with Type 2 a couple of weeks ago and was just wondering what my blood glucose level should be 1 hour after eating. My fasting bg is usually between 6.0 and 7.0 in the morning and two hours after eating it is usually around 7.4. i have read that those are pretty good numbers, with room for improvement, of course, but it is the one hour reading that I am confused about...

If I have a smoothie with fruit in it for breakfast and lunch as part of my weight loss program, my bg is between 9.2 and 9.6 after one hour. I had sushi today and the reading was 13.1 after one hour, but down to 7.4 after two.

I am still adjusting to all this, and haven't received an appointment to the diabetes clinic that my doctor is sending me to yet, so I don't know if I just need to worry about the 2 hour reading or if I should be trying to control the one hour reading too.

Yep, your 2 hour readings should drop back ... and yours are.

But those spikes (and yes, i did see the words "fruit" and "sushi") should be your first guide. What fruits? Most are full of sugar. Is the sushi white rice? Guessing they are as well.

Your 2 hour numbers aren't too bad ... let us know :)

Hi and welcome to the forum :)
complete agreement with mike on the 1 hour numbers

as you continue -- the words "eat to your meter" are key in preventing spikes

there is every chance your medical people will try to convince you you don't need to test being type 2 but........

just ask them if they drive their cars without speedometers.
