Blood glucose level falls after eating

Don't have diabetes
I test my BGL every year. My fasting level is 5.7, which some would say is almost pre diabetic.
Two hours after food the level drops to 5.3. I always thought that the bgl was supposed to rise after food.
Is this normal?

Your fasting BG is not in the pre-diabetic or diabetic range so that's all that really matters. Plus, a couple of finger prick tests each year are not enough in themselves to deem "how close" you may be to the diabetic range. Your fasting BG is <6.1mmol/l which is all that really counts.

A HbA1c test would be a better marker for seeing just how near (or far) from diabetes you actually are. Should it be a concern, you can always ask your GP for a test.

If you're not testing your BG between finishing your meal and 2 hours post-prandial; you're unlikely to see any raised BG's as a non-diabetic.

This is completely normal for a non-diabetic. You would only be likely to see a two hour rise if you were suffering some form of glycaemic impairment.
