blood glucose meter

Am I missing a trick into getting blood glucose meter strips at a cost that suites my means.

I have read plenty of good advice and when to take regular test for blood glucose results from Type 2 members on this forum.

I know I can't get them on prescription from NHS as only being type 2, ( have singed the petition ).

I know that the Tax Man makes a fortune from the sale of these strips to Type 2 users through normal channel's.

I also know the strips are quite cheap to mass produce.

Or am I just the only person who wants to be healthy yet cannot use recommended controls.

I buy my strips from Abbott Diabetes Care. They are VATfree.[as they should be anywhere :shock: ] check out their website to see which brands they supply. I'm sure other suppliers provide a service like Abbott's. Bayer, I discovered does not. they sell through a retail pharmacy, so there's no saving in going direct.
Start with googling the brand of your particular meter. From there you can get to the supplier's website and find what kind of service they provide

I'm a T2 who does get her strips on prescription, but I didn't always. I used to get mine VAT and P&P free from Amazon.

Try Hana's advice and see what the brand's website says, if no joy, then Amazon and Ebay seem to be the best places.
 
Have you looked at the SD Codefree. If you do a search on the internet you will find the UK supplier and their strips cost £4.99( vat free for Diabetics) for 50 with a p&p of £2.00 for each order regardless of the number of items/strips you have delivered. (Just double check the p&p if you use Amazon as that site has been dearer in the past.)
 
I am a type 2 and get prescription test strips. I also have an sd codefree as these are really cheap strips. I use them both alternate weeks, so I don't use my prescription ones up to quickly and the doctor keeps giving them to me as I don't abuse them. :D

For the SD Codefree the P&P was always free.

Sorry I worded my post wrongly adding " the p&p " on Amazon when I meant check "the cost". The strips are £4.99 for 50 + a one off p&p of £2.00 except on Amazon where the p&p is free but you pay £6.99 for every pot of 50 strips you order. :(

Thanks for all your recommendations, I have now happily placed a order of which is affordable.

You would have thought The DESMOND coarse could of advised me of less expensive strips instead of saying Type 2 do not need them.

Now I will have money to fill my E type with petrol ( Morris Minor actually )
