Blood Glucose Meter
How do they work, can you see if all the changes to life are benefiting my blood sugar level.
I heard diabetes can affect your eyes, I need them.

Blood glucose meters measure how much glucose (sugar) is floating around in your blood - too much (and in the case of type 1 - too little) is bad.
It measures (in the uk) in units known as mmol/L
A normal amount of glucose would be between 4 and 8 mmol/L
When the amount of glucose floating around in your blood rises it damages your organs - eyes, kidneys, heart, nerves and others - the longer your organs are exposed to high blood glucose the more damage is done - refered to as diabetic complications.
A meter enables you to see what your glucose level is at any particular time. From the readings it provides you can see the effect any particular food has on your blood glucose.
A meter does not lower your blood glucose level but it gives you the information you need to do so yourself.

Evidence is inconclusive for an ideal amount of total fat intake for people with diabetes;
therefore, goals should be individualized; fat quality appears to be far more important than quantity.
In people with type 2 diabetes, a Mediterranean-style, MUFA-rich eating pattern may benefit
glycemic control and CVD risk factors and can therefore be recommended as an effective alternative to a lower-fat, higher-carbohydrate eating pattern.
