I have now bought a blood glucose monitor and was wondering how is the best way to use it? Is it best to test before/after a meal or test individual foods?

Probably best to get some advice from some of the other T2's around but the way I would start would be something like:

Test before meals and log it in a diary
Keep a diary of what you eat (carb count it too if you can)
Test a couple of hours after eating (minimum 2 hours)
Test before and after exercise and (you guessed it) write it down in diary / log

That data alone should be able to give you a pretty good handle on what food does what to you and also what exercise does for you too :)
Sounds like a lot of finger pricking to start with and it is but I guess once you have a handle on it you could back off a bit so your fingers can recover.

But as I said at the top, I may be talking rubbish, so best to see what the successful T2's think :)

Best of luck.
