Firstly, did you wash your hands before testing, especially if handling food items?
Meters are not very accurate, so can be up to 2 mmol/l different even on the same drop of blood. Some meters are prone to misread so if you get an unexpected reading, take another after washing hands just to make sure it is not a rogue one.
Stress can push up bgl readings due to adrenaline overriding insulin and stopping glucose storage. were you rushing around a bit? or in a tither?
For some of us T2D the bgl tends to rise during the day because the liver likes it that way. It is trying to maintain previously high(er) levels that it has been trained to use by bad diets in the past. It takes a while to reset the thermostat to lower levels. Diabetes is a marathon not a sprint.
