Just been sent an email re blood glucose top tips. One of the forums is called 5%. I just want to say that yes we all should be aiming for this but for some people it is nigh on impossible to achieve this. I have just got mine down from 9.1 to 8.1 which to me personally is a great achievement. My problem is that I have been diabectic now for 39 years and have just been told that I need to go onto meformin as well as my 5 injections a day. Apparently I have become insulin resistant. Anyway I went on a DAFNE course last year and I was amazed how those people who have recently been diagnosed are treated far better than us old timers. Apparently my equipment was out of date. I was using something which I hated using and really shouldn't have been using. Anyway well done to those that can achieve 5% I personally won't ever achieve this but I will keep on trying to go downwards instead of up and to all of you keep on smiling. I am hoping to get to 50 years now.
Well done suzy and your post resonates with me very much.
I keep trying to get the message acrosss that we are all different and that diabetes management is not a competition. If our results are going down instead of up then rejoice and celebrate and pat your self on the back. Do your best and leave the rest. If they are not moving then back to the Dr./Consultant and see what he can offer.
The 5% Club is mostly for Type 2s, there should be honorary membership for Type 1s who can get into the sixes!
Agreed though, not everyone can achieve these numbers for many reasons, but it's worth aiming for the best YOU can achieve. If you're given the aim of mediocrity you may achieve it but may not realise you could do better. If mediocrity is the best you can achieve you're still better off than all too many!
