Blood in Urine

Just to add to my ongoing list, I was told when I saw the consultant I had blood in my urine - sorry to be graphic. (Not lady things!). Anyway was told to give another sample to my GP for testing, which I did. When I phoned up for the results yesterday, I was told it had been marked for me to do another test in two weeks. Anyone had any exprience of this and know why it should be another test in two weeks? (None of the websites I looked at mentioned a second test two weeks on). I have no other symptons. Is this connected to Diabetes?

For years ,long before I had diabetes,any time my urine is tested it has blood in it.There are no other symptoms and even the doctor says this sometimes happens!!It could be something or nothing but tests will tell you this.Try not to worry about it.

Diabetics are susceptible to Urinary tract infections of one kind or another, its how i got diagnosed.

Blood in urinr may well not be directly linked to diabetes

In my case it was a sinus infection, strep AFAICR. The GP checked my urine as if she was expecting to find traces of blood, I gather other nondiabetic patients were also getting this: either the bug was putting out toxins or infecting the kidney itself. It cleared up with antibiotics and has never been seen since.

Hi,
If your GP believes this is an infection I would expect him/her to have given antibiotics fairly quickly to prevent worse infection and to prove within a week if it was or not. The further tests are possibly to establish what the general level of blood in your urine is. Kidney failure is as common to diabetics as eyesight failure, as the smallest blood vessels in both the eyes and kidneys rupture. The urine tests will also show any protein that may be present. If they find that the blood is from a deteriation in your kidneys at the very earliest point it can be treated by keeping your blood pressure as low as possible and keeping your blood sugar under good control.
I went through this about 4 years ago and I have been put on the waiting list for a kidney & pancreas transplant about 2 years ago. At my last two renal appointments my kidney outputs have improved with the treatment and I am now off of the list, so good control is the key all round.

I'm glad to read that you are off the transplant list. and that good control is responsible. my T1 husband is attending the renal clini regularlywith stage 3 chronic kidney disease at the moment. He's just been passed "down 2 to the lower leel, because his kidneys are "stable" that's down to reduced carbs and reduced insulin.
Your post haas lightened my load.

Good news for you both then. It just goes to show that the light at the end of the tunnel may flicker but it takes a lot to blow it out altogether!
