Hi everyone
mmol/1 v mmol/mol Confused

First time using a glucose monitor tee2
Reading was 5.5 mmol/l
Which looks pretty good only that on my diabetic review Hba1c was 52mmol/ mol . Above range
I thinking that the reading 52mmol/mol is an average over 3 months were as the 5.5 is just Int the day
Any advice guys right or wrong

Two different things.. hence 2 different units..

HbA1c is measured in mmol/m your individual finger prick units are mmol/l

They don't translate 1 for 1.

There used to be a calculator that turned HbA1c into an "average" finger prick reading but I couldn't find it last time I looked..

I'l have another try for you.

Edit to add you can find it here

https://www.diabetes.co.uk/hba1c-to-blood-sugar-level-converter.html

Your 52 mmol/m translates to an average level of 8.4 mmol/l

Does that help?

Thanks
So is the higher reading an average taken over 3 months DN review
HbA1c is kind of an "average" of what your blood sugars were over the previous 3 months.. so to get 52 mmol/m your average blood sugar was in the region of 8.4 mmol/l over that period

Your finger prick at 5.5 mmol/l hopefully means that you have managed to reduce your blood glucose levels to a more "normal" level which should show up in your next HbA1c.. depending of course how long they have been at that more normal level.

Yes the hba1c is more for an idea of what your control has been over the last 3 months you dsn or consultant will often ask for one before an appointment as it gives them a better idea of how you’ve been controlling things rather than accepting what you tell them

The reading from you meter is only what your glucose is in that instant so is used for your treatment/diet decisions
