Blood Pressure and Kidney Protection.

Hello All,

Hope you are all well.

How does Blood pressure tablets offer diabetics kidney protection.

As from my personal view my BP is normal, but I am still told I must take Blood pressure medication, as it will protect my kidneys.. How does it do this?

My take on this is that there is a higher incidence of kidney disease in diabetics than in the general population and ACE inhibitors protect the kidneys from excreting protein into the urine.
Read this article and it will help you understand. Some Drs give them as a preventative measure too.

This one explains that even when Diabetes is controlled, it can lead to CKD and Kidney failure.

If you find that your blood pressure becomes too low then you need to go back to your G.P.

Dear Catherine,

As I have posted recently, I have been diagnosed with Kidney Damage and am taking ACE Inhibitors to maintain a safe BP. However, after boasting over my lifetime that I have 100% perfect BP ("Like a young horse" some doctors stated) my last
reading was 90/60 which I am told is too low even though my doctor did not raise and eyebrow as he took it and informed
me. Naturally I do not want it to go any lower - any comment you may have would be helpful. Thankyou for the two links

90/60 and below is defined as low bp so you certainly don't want it going any lower Rob:
