Blood pressure question

Afternoon all. I have a quick question about blood pressure and Type 1 & 2 Diabetes. I have Type 1 and was told my blood pressure when last checked was 'perfect' at 110/80. Being the sceptic that I am  , I did a bit of reading and found that many recommendations are for the bottom number to be under 80 for someone with Diabetes and that 80 or above puts you at risk of cardiovascular problems. It worries me that my doctor is telling me my bp is 'perfect' when it might well not be. Any views on this?

Don't forget it will also depend on your age, but I would certainly be happier with a diastolic figure nearer to 70 than 80. It's not just your cardiovascular system that benefits from perhaps even slightly lower than normal pressure, the microvascular system in your eyes and kidneys can be very severely damaged by hypertension. I had a few problems with this at first but once I nailed it, my eyes and kidneys actually improved. My numbers now average at around 115/75, albeit with a veritable cocktail of prescription drugs! :D

Hi there
My Gp said mine is 110/74, He said now i am type 2, it should be kept around 70, but he is not worried that i am 74, In age i am 33, he said it could be stress related!

A single BP reading of ANY figure is meaningless.

Blood pressure changes constantly, awake and asleep, and is affected by hundreds of things. Posture, illness, weight, activity, stress, age and medications are just a few.

One way to find out if blood pressure is raised to a level that could be considered 'high' is to wear a monitor at least 24hours. These usually record a BP every 30 minutes and the resulting data would be used as a tool with a view to treatment.

As for what constitutes a raised BP, well this also depends on hundreds of things.
