Hi I had flu a week ago and am finding it near impossible to lower my readings tight now.
Do you think it could be because I have had flu?
How long would you say it takes to no longer have an effect please?
Yes when we are unwell our blood sugar will rise mainly because our liver give us
extra glucose to help fight off the infection.
Some of the remedies we use to ease our symptoms can contribute, and usually it's difficult to
Keep focused on our diet when we're under the weather.
Once you are clear of the infection and back to your normal diet/exercise routine things should settle down,
How long it takes is a very individual thing, and anyone's guess. But cutting as many carbs out as you can should help speed things along.

It could be. My experience is that my BGs will rise a bit (about 10-20%) in the day or two before any symptoms appear - I'm only talking about very minor sniffles, as I've not been ill in the last three years - and that rise can sometimes last a week or ten days.
I assume this is because my system is a little stressed by its response to whatever bug it is and the standard response from my liver is "top up his blood sugar, can't do any harm".

I have just got over a bout of the flu, I ended up having to go to hospital it was that bad. My blood sugars rose. In fact my baseline rose from 6 mmol/L to 9 mmol\L and my fasting blood sugars were around 11. They have since come down.
