244 (in US measurement) after exercise in the morning, lots of water, and fasting from 7 pm the night before (blood test was at 11 am the next day) and also stopped sweets and cut carbs for a few days before that....Does that mean my bs is usually even higher than this fasting #?

Strenuous exercise can have the opposite effect to what you were hoping for. If this is the case for you, it's a stress reaction and your liver has dumped some glucose into your system to help you cope.

Would you happen to have your pre-exercise and other pre-meals reading?

I exercised at like 7 am though so 4 hours before the blood test. I don't have any other readings yet since I was just diagnosed today.

A HbA1c test will give us a fair idea of what our daily average blood glucose has been for the past couple of months. We cannot extrapolate too much from a single reading. :)

I guess I'm just freaking out (and this is my own fault) because 15 years ago my fasting blood sugar was 200 and my AIC was 9. 3 weeks of dieting my fasting blood sugar was 118. Continued diet and lost 50 lbs and in 6 months my fasting blood sugar was 90 and AIC 5 (I'm in the US so using that measurement). Never on meds for it. I didn't get another blood test for 7 years...my fasting blood sugar was 75....fast forward another 8 years (today) and my fasting is 244....so I'm assuming my blood sugar has been out of wack for almost 15 years? and I'm can't imagine I don't have some kind of damage? I'm surprised my kidney levels were normal....I was sure they weren't since I had been seeing bubbles in my urine for a number or years.

Hi joayk

Hi Joeyk
I have been type 2 for the last 17 years and I do all the timing with food , snacks and when to exercises; e. g.1hr after meal exercise as always test BG first. If I'm going to swim for 64 laps; my BG have to be between 10-14 mmol/L and test it again. It normally reduces to 5 or 6 mmol/L: time to eat . With time you will get to know your body.
