I have been monitoring myself fairly well for a while now.
I have found something which seems odd. I am happy with my blood sugars between 4.2 and 8, preferably in the mid of those values - 5.5 to 6.0.
When I have a hypo I get the horrible symptoms - confusion, sweats, anxiety and trembles. When I have a hypo I get these symptoms, and take my 2 CP of rapid action sweets. I watch my blood sugar rise, but I carry on having the hypo symptoms even when my blood sugar rises - even above my happy area. So why am I happy with sugar levels between 4.2 and 8 except when coming out of a hypo. I would not want to be driving, or cycling then!!! yet, would be happy to do so if that level was not post-hypo.
The temptation is to overdose on sweets, and get rid of the hypo symptoms.
Am I alone in this experience?
It strikes me that it is not an insulin reaction. Looks to me as if the low blood sugar to insulin ratio creates another chemical - the one that causes the symptoms. It seems to me that this chemical carries on even when the insulin blood sugar ratio has normalized. It this could be neutralized then surely the effects of hypo could be reduces more rapidly?
