Blood sugar before breakfast

Could anyone give me a reason why my sugar should be high first thing in the morning before breakfast (e.g. 10.8 this morning)? It quite often seems to be the case. Am taking metformin twice per day with breakfast and dinner so the reading is before the tablet.

What are you eating the night before? What time do you finish eating the night before? Are you exercising the night before? All these things can have an impact on your morning sugars. If you are not eating enough the night before you can get a "Liver dump"during the night because your sugars have fallen too low!

Knowledge is the key to control

I have asked the same problem. look up my quetion BLOOD TEST READING and you will find a good answere from Dennis who has given me a good web sight which explains your problem,

See http://www.diabetic-talk.org/dp.htm for an excellent explanation of the Dawn Phenomenon. It also gives you some excellent advice for dealing with it. Best of luck.

Thanks for that. I read the useful explanation. Usually I don't eat anything after dinner which is around 7pm. I am going to try eating the small snack suggested and see if that makes a difference.
