Hi all

I was diagnosed end of august this year medication is 2 500mg metformin and 1x trajenta (linagliptin) per day i have been keeping track of bloods pre food and post food
Nothing happened and now i have changed my diet to a low carb style found out white bread cereals potatoes are the main culprits spiking my readings high
last couple of weeks readings pre food are between 6-9 mmol and 2 hrs ish after they are 12 - 8 mmol last night i dropped to 4.3 is there any need for concern that i could be going hypo

thanks in advance for any advice

As a Type 2 and on the meds that you are, a 4.3 is nothing to be worried about. You are not going to hypo.

If you were on insulin or gliclazide, going down into the 4's and lower would be a cause for concern. For the meds you are on 4.3 is good. Non-diabetics spend their life going round at this sort of number.

As Denise has said, your 4.3 is fine, indeed it is good and right where it should be!

As your low carb diet kicks in, together with the medication you should find that your BGs will drop overall and it could even be
that you will get many more around that level.

Hi Ian, I just looked up linagliptin on Wiki, because I had never heard of it before. It looks like its a med to stimulate the release of insulin like Gliclazide. If that is the case then there is a possibility of going hypo. I suggest you go see your Dr or DN to check. You might be able to come off that med now that you have good control of your diet, but you need to speak to the Dr first.

Yes be a bit careful. Low carbing with an insulin stimulating med can be an issue. Getting 4.3 is spot on and is roughly the value a healthy non diabetic would expect. If you keep low carbing and it gets lower then you may need to go back to the doc and get the dose reduced.

thanks all will contact the doc on monday get his advice still trying to get my head round all this ..... still looking for advice guidelines etc

Lowest i have seen mine was 2.8 after swimming a kilometre pretty vigorously. I did feel sick and wobbly but got dressed and back home ok.
