Blood sugar help

Sheffy

Newbie
Hi,
I am new to the forum but not to diabetes. Have just been given a new fangled blood testing kit that does everything but drive me to the hospital. Can anyone out there help me with one particular setting which is " 1 unit of rapid acting insulin is equal to about how many grams of carbs" Am I ok to think it is like for like ie 1 unit = 1g of carbohydrate? Thanks in advance

Hi. For me 1 unit of insulin covers 10g carbs. It's individual but that's where people tend to start I think.

I started with one unit every 10 carbs but I was still getting high readings so now I do 1 1/2 units to every 10 carbs seems to be working with my readings between 5 - 7 through out the day. I am still working on adjusting my insulin and carbs to get it right but only do this every 3 or 4 days. I eat around 100 - 140 carbs a day. It really is trial and error

Thanks guys. Searched everywhere on google and eventually found similar to what you said . 1 unit of insulin accounts for 10-15 g of carbs.
