Hey,

Just back from my yearly review and my Doc continues to be happy regarding my Blood Sugar levels basically in normal however they are concerned about my Triglycerides and Chol/HDL Ratio and looking to start me on Statins.

I'll be honest im a bit confused as I had thought long term Low carb would be good for Cholesterol as well.

Eggs
Cheese
Peanut Butter
Butter
Beef
Chicken
Dark Chocolate
Berries
Greek Yoghurt
Mince
Sausages
Ketchup
Onion
Garlic
Spices
Greens, spinach, kale.

Usual shop list.

Trigs are 3.6 mmol/L
Chol/HDL Ratio are 11.1

Cheers for any help with this, looking to avoid starting Statins if possible.

Although high cholesterol is associated with diet , there is also a genetic component as well @fendertele . A far more accurate test around risk would be an Apo B test (Apolipoprotein B ) . I take statins, currently 20mg daily. It has brought my LDL ‘s down and increased my HDL’s . I’ve always had low Triglycerides at 0.6. I do not suffer any muscle aches from tje statins, but I do know this can be a side effect.

I did have higher than normal cholesterol but didn't want a statin, and honestly was ok with the higher numbers but my doctor was giving me the side eye….
I started taking Berberine, which has been shown to lower cholesterol and BAM….worked like a charm for both me and hubby. My ratio is 3 and my triglycerides are .56 (they have always been good).
Check out this short…interesting
