Hello

Last year i under went a total thyroidextomy. due to diabeties being hereditory in my family (mother, Gran mother and Step daughter) i have been told that i could be prone to being diagnosed.

I test my bloods due to this and they are between 7 and 11 is this normal as the chart i have seen says i should be below 8

many thanks for your replies

That is a little on the high side and I would get a doctor to look into it, though you might have to be persistent. My GP thought it was fine when I first presented with those levels plus family history. It can be hereditary. Honestly, I don't think that's normal. Are you overweight? What's your diet like?

Apparently blood sugar for normal people is meant to be 4-7 at all times and never over 8. But then a doctor will ignore up to 11. Or even over 11 @_@

Guidelines vary between the NHS, NICE and the ADA which is confusing.

Having tested non diabetics around me I haven't ever seen anyone over 5! So I think the oft quoted 4-7 is normal and not enough people are being diagnosed/getting help with diabetes or Prediabetes.

I wish you the best of luck. Definitely get those levels followed up ok? I decided to test of my own accord for the same reasons as you, similar numbers and now worse, so nag nag nag your GP, keep an eye on it and try to lose weigh toe reduce carb intake for the time being x

Ok you're already on the right track. Exercise makes a huge difference. I'm 7 stone 10-8stone but thinking of dropping some weight to get my numbers down...

Wishing you the best x
