Carrots, parsnips, beans and pulses. People who don't get to the point!

Well, I've bought a meter, just to test and prove I do not have DT2 but these numbers really do not make sense.

This morning on waking (my last meal last night was 7pm salad) I was 6.1 now 2 hours after lunch - fruit only I am 11.2? What does it mean?

Fruit is quite high in sugar. How much did you eat and what was it? Some fruits are VERY high.
Try finding a copy of Dr. Bernstein's Diabetes Solution. He explains pretty much everything there. It's mainly aimed at T1, but is relevant to T2 also.
In addition Collins Little gem calorie counter, has all the info you need to see what nutrients you are getting. It costs under £5 from Waterstones, Smiths or Amazon.

The levels of blood glucose in non diabetics as cited by diabetes UK (the charity)
are:
3.5 - 5.5mmols/l before meals
less than 8mmols/l, 2 hours after meals.

The NICE guideline targets for people with diabetes are:

Adults with Type 1 diabetes (NICE 2004)
Before meals: 4- 7mmols/L
2 hours after meals: less than 9mmols/L

Type 2 diabetes (NICE 2008)
Before meals: 4-7mmol/L
Two hours after meals: less than 8.5mmols

unfortunately as i said before, it really does look like the diagnosis you have of diabetes is true,
i know it is hard to come to terms with but to get those numbers down try looking at the collins carb counter as already suggested, sorry but you are a diabetic :?

I now have my GP on my case, who has actually phoned me in person, so I assume he must be concerned?! I think he is trying to "talk me down" and wants to see me next week to talk it through. I have so much pressure at moment, work and a currently self absorbed husband, who is going through a crisis at work and is draining me emotionally and physically that I don't know if I coming or going. Apparently his stress renders him incapable of helping or even cooking a meal. I just got back, from work (11pm), had to attend a late meeting, I started at 8am this morning and you would think he could offer to have made me a meal or a snack. No, which means the last time I ate was 1pm today, which I'm assuming if it is Diabetes is not good. I have not told my husband and will not for the time being. I am usually a strong person, but think I might have gone into big denial because I cannot cope with dealing with this at the moment, if it is Dt2, I just do not have time or capacity. So I don't know what is stress and what is what. Sorry I do seem to rant on this forum, and I am normally a nice person, but I just feel LOST and scared.

Oh my word!! You have a lot on your plate! And that husband of yours needs talking to - seriously!

You need to sit him down and tell him about the T2 diagnoses (possibly) and what changes it will require of you AND him! No making you a meal - honestly!!!

Do take care of you - he is old enough to take care of himself.

Best
Alice

PS. How about asking your husband to join you in the 21st centurary where BOTH men and women are allowed in the kitchen!!

My husband actually used be great, but he started a new job 8 weeks ago and it is just very different and his boss is a cow etc. He is 100% about him at the moment, he does not seem to think that I get tired, although my job is just as demanding. He told me he needs all my support but he is just draining all the joy out of everything. I cannot focus around him and I am just fire fighting. I am so bloody exhausted but can't sleep, my head and heart pound and the nerves in my legs twitch! It is a mess.

I am really quite worried about this. It is all well and fine he started a new job 8 weeks ago and he need to do this and that. However, if he cannot see you are about to crack - someone needs to send him a wake up call.

He need you - you need him and neither of you are getting the support you need and if you are about to have a lifechanging diagnoses, then HE needs to know and adjust too. You cannot and should not carry you both through all of this - I do not know you two, but right now it seems to me, as if he is taking a VERY selfish path. YOU need support too - marriage is after all about two people in partnership.

Feel free to PM me if you want to talk - my shoulders are broad and happy to be a sounding board if you need one!

Alice
