Hi
I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes in July. I went to see the diabetic nurse at the doctors who tested me and it was 7.4. She gave me Metformin 500 mg SR as l have diverticula disease. I was told to take one for seven days and then two at night straight after evening meal. I was also given a blood sugar Accu Mobile and told to test before Breakfast and after evening meal which l have been doing my sugar levels have been from 8.3 to now being at 14.00 which is what is was at 11:30pm tonight, I spoke to the doctor this week who told me to check it for a week before each meal and before going to bed. So today yesterday it started of at 09:55 8.3 13:14, 10.00, 18:11, 6.9, 23:30, 14.00. I had whole meal rice for my tea with chilli, Apple and nothing else. I have cut out potatoes, crisps, chocolate, when l eat bread it is burgen soya and linseed. I have cut out pop also.
I am not sure why it so up and down. The doctor has asked me to go in and see him next week to look at increasing tablets and possibly giving me another tablet. But l feel since been on this Metformin l have felt worse than before l was diagnosed.
Can anyone give me advice on what l can do, like l say l am trying to change diet, but feel lousy all the time.

Rice can spike you big time and then you had a piece of fruit which can also spike you, although apples are usually not to firce for me, but I am not you.. If you are trying to see the difference, cut out all bread and grains for a while, all processed meats and foods, and all fruits. Certain kinds of beans you might find in chili can raise you. You can have some 90% chocolate as a night snack but for now you want to see how a strict diet can lower you overall.

Way most diabetics test is upon waking, one hour and two hours after a meal. For a while, you will want to test before lunch and before dinner and also the one and two hours after. A lotta test strips but worth it.

There are some things you can eat that are often carb neutral like eggs and bacon, bone broth and others.

Metformin can be taken if you have tummy issues halfway through your meals and you can spread out the three ERs.

There is a low carb forum on diabetes UK and you can take a low carb course for free on this website. Everybody has to go through the process of testing what spikes their individual bloodsugar because we are each unique.

It's a process
Thanks very much l am finding it difficult to get my head round but will look at low carb
