Hi guys i'm a type 2 diabetic.I take Metformin Januvia, Piogltazone along with aspirin ,i went to the doctors he prescribed me with omeprazle and gabapentin also take solpadol as a painkiller at night. The days and weeks before getting the new tablets my blood sugar was 7.3 average. The day after taking then new tablets it shot up to 15.3 got a fright.Stopped the gabapentin the next morning sugar level went down to 10.6. Then the days after taking the tablets as prescribed my sugar blood level go from 9.9 to 10.6. Just dont understand . I have a fractured vertabrate thats the reason i take gabapentin . can a chest infection cause blood sugar level to rise or is it the new tablets.

I'm not familiar with your medication, so can't comment on how that might work. But an infection can certainly cause a rise in BGs. Your body sticks out more glucose to fuel the fight against the infectious invaders. For many of us, a rise in BG is the first sign that we're going down with something.

Thanks Boo jewels didn't know that about infections. I thought it might have been the new tablets.

Any sort of stress to your body is likely to cause a rise, so if you're in pain etc. with your fractured vertebra, that too could be an explanation. You might be best to discuss this with one of your team, either GP or DN.

I just had a quick squiz at information for Gabapentin and it does suggest that it might cause a rise in BG - so have a read of the data sheet supplied with it - again, your medical team are the people to discuss this with.
