hi i want to get a new blood sugar monitor i currently have the one touch ultra easy monitor. i want to buy somthing which is good and the test strips are cheap

The information on your page says you have type 1 diabetes and live in Birminghm. Is that correct? Is that Birmingham UK? If so, why are you buying blood sugar monitors and test strips?

I still don't understand why you would have to buy one. I'm sure your DSN will give you one to keep for spare if you ask. If you get in touch with the manufacturer and explain that you want a spare one, they will probably just give you a metre.

ok will ask my docs when i see them at the moment they are giving me a 100 strips a month seems to less because im testing sometimes 10 times a day. last time i asked about a meter they was funny they were reluctant to give me one

Are you just under the care of you're GP? Try and get in touch with the diabetic specialist nurses at your local hospital - they will be able to sort you out a spare monitor.

Is your GP limiting you to 100 strips per month? That's only 3 tests per day, which is contrary to the nice guidelines on blood sugar monitoring for type 1 diabetics which provide that we should be supported to test 4 to 10 times a day, or more.

hi will do im going on 5th jan so will be seeing diabetes team at the hospital but they should be able to change my prescription from 100 strips right cause im finding that im running out before month ends

Your Dr's surgery would have received the following letter in 2013 from the Dept of Health, maybe print it off and remind them of its content:

https://www.gov.uk/government/uploa.../Safe-care-of-people-with-type-1-diabetes.pdf

If they don't up the prescription for test strips involve your DSN or Consultant, they'll write to your gp to say you need adequate test strips to manage your type 1 diabetes, I've had to do this after my own test strip supply was questioned and reduced.

I get 300 a month! My current gp is fantastic, prior to that I was told I should only be testing twice a day. I nearly burst out laughing in his face.
