Blood Sugar Readings

Morning all,
What should a normal blood sugar reading be 2 hours after eating for a non-diabetic?
If your reading is 5.4 when you get up, then is 6.4 90mins after eating, that's perfectly normal, right?
Also would a non-diabetic be testing 8.1 and 9.9 two hours after eating, regardless of what it was?
Sorry to ask but curious, as my friend has just been diagnosed as pre-diabetic is getting these numbers, and I myself am in the diabetic testing process, so if anything comes of it would like some understanding of the numbers.
Thank you :)

Inmportant to understand though that everyone is different. A few people are likely to get lower / higher numbers than any statistical average.

Thank you for that...ah ok so I guess a non diabetic could have high numbers now and again but not be pre or diabetic?

Hi @SamStew123 ,

The issue with a single finger prick test is that it is instantaneous, it doesn't show you which direction your glucose levels are heading in. Neither does it show you what your body is doing over the the longer term.

A more reliable method is the hba1c test. For this your blood sample is sent off to a lab for analysis where they work out what your average blood glucose level has been over the past 2 to 3 months.

This is an indication of the levels that an hba1c test would yield..................

Note that at home, your finger prick test gives results in mmol/mol and the a1c is mmol/l - they are not directly comparable.
