I have been checking my sugar levels using the testing strips for the last few years. Of late, am having difficulty in testing. the blood drop does not spread on the strip. I have been using the same strips for the last few years... i tried buying new strips, that also does not work... i am around 50 . I have not been able to test at home using strips because of this issue for the last 6/8 months...look forward to any insights on this matter ! thanks much

hi there and welcome to thte forum

normally the test strip "draws" the blood in to the strip and most test strips these days do not require much blood to activate the countdown to a result..

what meter and strips are you using ?
Have you spoken to the pharmacy that supplied the strips ( to ask if they might be defective ). ?

How about changing the finger pricking device you are using ? Are you changing the lancets regularly ? Also are you testing from the pad of the finger or the sides ? The pad is more sensitive so you can draw more blood from this area.

Thanks for the suggestions. I did check with the chemist . Not much clarity. Enough blood is visible on the strip. it just doesn't flow on the strip to form a layer.... i thought it is a blood thickening issue.... so posted here to see if anyone else ha gone through the same issue .

It is best to present the tip of the strip to the blood drop to allow the capillary action to work rather than try to smear the end of the strip with blood.
