There are many things which affect our BG.
Food/diet is the obvious one but our BG may be raised if we are stressed, ill, exercising less, if the weather changes (some find their BG raised when it is hotter than usual and some find it is raised when it is colder), if we don't sleep well, if we drink less alcohol, ...
I don't know about vaping but wonder if you are cutting down on smoking whether this is causing stress or lack of sleep.
My lack of sleep is a symptom of my chronic fibromyalgia with muscle spasm condition. Plus the symphysis pubis dysfunction causes stiffness and pain in my pelvis and hips when lying in bed, despite the memory foam mattress. My irritable bladder makes me get up for the toilet several times a night. I don't sleep longer than 3 hours straight without waking up. Usually it is about an hour or 2 though. Then I am awake for hours. I take my AM pills at 4am and then I usually sleep for a couple more hours. The antihistamine makes me sleepy.
I take Lofepramine, Lansoprazole, Losartan, Tizanidine, Norethisterone, Oxybutynin, Zomorph, Prochlorperazine, Seretide, Vitamin D, Vitamin B12, Chromium, Cetirizine, Glicazide, Metformin, oramorph on demand, Salbutamol on demand and sumatriptan on demand.
Some of these I take twice a day, and some are three tablets a day.
I am really quite a sick lady. Diabetes is really the least of my illnesses.
I have diabetes, vertigo, gallstones, irritable bladder, irritable bowel, fibroids, hypertension, orthostatic hypotension, symphysis pubis dysfunction, fibromyalgia with muscle spasms, carpal tunnel with nerve damage in my right hand, asthma, migraines, mobility problems and obesity. And I am only 44!! My PIP statement is 4 A4 sides long describing my illnesses, my meds and how they affect me.
My last HBA1C was 9.6
