Hi all . Since using a libre sensor I have found my blood sugars goes up in the night .so using nova rapid before bed to keep in range but have also worked out that my sugars goes up in the morning now .when I wake up they are about 6-8 by the time I’m at work 30-60 mins it’s at 14 .take a small shot to lower and I drop like a stone .
Had this for 20 years now and thanks to my sensor I am working things out but still every day a learning curve .

It's likely a combination of dawn phenomenon and your basal wearing off at a time when you need more insulin. What basal are you using and do you split the dose?

Libre is a real eye opener, just when you thought you weren't doing to badly you get to see the whole picture :D

Sounds like you probably need to get your basal sorted first, do a search for 'basal testing' if you're unsure what it is.

I get that too. With libre, I figured out that 2u or so pretty much as soon as I woke up would pin it. Whereas if I don't pin it, it'll easily be above 10 and it'll take way more insulin to drag it back down again.

If you've not already read them, Sugar Surfing by Stephen Ponder and Beyond Fingersticks by William Lee Dubois, both on kindle, have got a lot of good tips on getting the most out of cgm/libre.

Like @slip says, basal testing is a good idea. I was still having an issue similar to yours after doing it, so I tried something else as well. I'd normally take my lantus just before bed, but was needing a correction to stop a fairly pronounced rise a few hrs later. I don't know the ins and outs of lantus chemistry, but I was reckoning that the previous night's shot had worn off and it was maybe taking a few hours for the fresh shot to settle in and start working, leaving me uncovered for a few hours, hence the rise.

So, I've moved the shot back to around 9pm, reckoning that it'll give it a few hrs more to get working and any rise from the previous night's shot wearing off will be covered in the meantime by the tail end of the evening tea bolus which I might adjust up a bit depending on what the graph is looking like. Seems to be working out ok so far.

agree with basal testing suggestion, and you might benefit from split dose (if you don't do it already). also, what's your daily routine? meal times/bolus units/basal units/times taken?
but please know that we're only here to suggest things, still best to consult your doctor for any radical changes :)
