hello

I am in Basel insulin routine. Basically I take Novarapid and Levemir. Levemir I take 20 units twice per day as per my consultant recommendation and Novarapid I take per the carb which I eat. I have the Freestyle Insulinx machines which calculates how much fast acting insulin I should take per grams of food. I have been getting some really high blood sugar levels in the the morning usually between 9 and 11. I go to bet and blood sugar can be between 6 and 7 and then in the morning it is high. I take the Levemir before I go to bed. The meter tells me not to use any fast acting insulin when my blood sugar is 6. I am getting really concerned because I suffer from diabetic retinopathy and I need to get better control of my diabetes. Have not attended the DAFNE course yet. I have the Carbs and Cal apps with helps with the carb counting. I have discussed with my consultant that I should take between 3-4 units of insulin for every 10 grams of carbs. Can any advice or have the same problem.

my adive to you sir , get on a pump as soon as possible
i have suffered retinopathy for a long while since 1986 your contol will improve
but under present control take not note s every day as if you write down times of carbs taken and insulin will give you a pattern
how high is it in the morning go 3 day with an increase /decrease in levermir go on internet and find out the insulin acting times
ie...... novarapid is 30 mins fast acting then atys in body acting for 6 hours always look back on how much slow actin an adjust let you find out about levermir
good luck vic 60 years on insulin ..
on pump 11 years only one type of insulin given every hour as basel
