Hi, I’ve just been given the freestyle Libre sensors and have been working even harder to get my blood sugars under control. But I find that If I’m high around 2-6pm and I take my nova rapid to bring it down I seem to be very sensitive to the insulin. For example I’ve been told that 1u of nova rapid will bring my blood down by 3 so earlier I was 19.9mmol and I took 3.5 units of insulin which should bring me down to around 9ish but it took me down to 4.0 this happens all the time when I inject between 2-6pm and in the past few months I have even had to ring 999 because my blood has dropped to 2mmol. I have spoken to the diabetes team and they have said I may be over lapping my injections but for example I ate lunch at 1pm and at 5pm it was high so I’ve taken an injection to bring my blood down and have ended up going low a few hours later. If I inject outside the hours of 2pm-6pm 1u will bring me down by 3 is there such thing as insulin sensitivity which only affect you at a certain time of day?

Yes, there is. Many of us find that the amount of insulin needed for exactly the same food at different times is vastly different.
For instance, I need more than twice the amount of inulin for the same food in the morning than I need in the evening.

Which tells you your correction factor is wrong at certain times of the day.
The amount of insulin someone needs is found by trial and error. If you find a certain dose always makes you go low or high your consultant should try to work out a more accurate dose with you.

Thank you I’ll mention it to my diabetes doctor, sometimes I feel like they just try blame it on other things tho but I’m determined to get to the bottom of it also in the mornings I have to take 2u of insulin when I wake up as my blood sugar will rise by itself if not and I’ve been told it’s to do with hormones and stuff so In the morning I’m very resistant to insulin and In the afternoon I’m sensitive to insulin bit of a nightmare at the moment
