- What seems like endless trips to the Dr or Hospital.
It is not in the least bit unusual for Type 2s to receive little or no information from their GPs. The diabetes nurses are marginally better. In fact, some are very good. It is the norm for GPs to devolve all T2 diabetes care to the nurse. I have been diagnosed for over 5 years now and have never once seen a GP about my diabetes - not even when I was first diagnosed. I see the nurse, who is excellent. As for the hospital diabetes clinic, these are mainly for Type 1s or for those with particular problems and other types of diabetes.
This website and the forum attached to it is the best place there is for advice.

HbA1c is a different test, it is a number for your average bloodglucose of the past 2,5 to 3 months. The mmol/l reading is the reading for right that moment, a fingerprick test. Your doc'll know your HbA1c, and you'll want that number, as it is your aim to get that number down. It gives us something to strive for.Hi Blue
I have booked an appointment with the Dr today, having back trouble for 3/4 days now and want to make sure nothing bad is going on. It's with the original Dr so i have a few questions for him, The information coming out of the Dr surgery is Zero, i must say i expected more help from them.
There is one thing confusing me a little, my meter gives a reading in mmol/l but i see more references to the blood count in Hba1c (think thats right) why 2 different readings? how do i convert mmol to Hbalc.
Oh, mine was really skinny, maybe in her early twenties, and in a complete panic. (I responded so badly to the metformin, she thought I'd been misdiagnosed, and probably was Lada. The panic was contagious, I can tell you!).Locally the typical diabetes nurse is obese, unhealthy and condensing.
I hope all works out for you
What do your numbers look like?
Before and after meals?

My Best Wishes to you @ColinS
I'm newbie and had be diagnosed with T2 diabebes for 3 month ago. I wanna ask a question because I see your post:
- Have you ever make any test to determine diabetes type before? I see we have 6 test, like C-peptide or Anti-GAD can help. My doctor didn't make any tests when I was diagnosed so I very curious. How long since you're diagnosed?
- As you said your mouth extremely dry, I have the same problem since I was diagnosed. I rode my bike in the evening (15-20km) since I was diagnosed. And my mouth dry when I sleep too. Always. Not thirsty, just very dry mouth when sleeping. Why dry mouth is the sign and we have tests for pancreatic cancer? I worry
Hope someone can give me some advice. Thank alot.
Hmmm, Ponchu, not sure that stereotype is helpful in any way. Obesity in and of itself doesn't always tell us about a persons health or lifestyle and is irrelevant to a persons expertise on diabetes or any other subject.
Just come back from the Hospital, Got the all clear Yaaaaaaaaa!
