Hi all, I know this has probably been answered before but I have to have my second Hbac1 test this week sometime and I just cant remember do I need to fast for this test? I am thinking that I dont need too??

Thanks so much

Sandra

Hi Sandra

You don't need to fast for an HbAc1test unless you are having other tests along with it. When I have mine, my GP does a variety of blood tests along with it, including a fasting glucose.

Are you back from your travels? Did you have a good time?

No you don't, unless they're also doing a breakdown of your various cholesterol levels (HDL, LDL, trigs)
Fasting is not needed for a total cholesterol alone.

I fasted for one of my blood tests and the nurse said I needn't have bothered because they weren't doing my triglycerides this time. From this I deduce that you need to fast only if you are having your triglycerides (???) done.

I have now asked that if I don't need to fast in future could they please let me know in advance but this proved to be difficult.

Hi all, thanks so much for your replies!

Yes Didie, we only got back this morning so I have major jetlag. But we had a terrific time, we had 3 nights in Venice on the way home which was an absolute highlight xxx
How are you doing?
