Blood Test Results

Hi,

18 months ago my 90 day average BG on a hospital blood test was 11.7, this has gradually come down. 12 months ago it was 7.3, 6 months ago 6.1 and today 5.7.

I am usually within the NICE pre/post prandial recommended limits however I can find no guidance on what the acceptable upper limit should be for the 3/6 monthly averaging blood test. My diabetic nurse tells me that they consider using insulin where the result has been 6.5 or higher on 2 consecutive tests, though they did not do that with me (still on Metformin and Gliclazide)

This (6.5) seems rather low to me to be moving onto insulin and I would like to hear what other people have been told by their diabetic clinicians/doctors please and also get an idea of averages for those of you on non-insulin medication.

Thanks.

Probably not the best person to ask as ihave developed a paranoid fear of being put on insulin I even have started having nightmares about it . Thats why I am rigorously wathching what I eat sugar and carb wise. If I go on insulin I loose my job my license and my place to live .I think at the moment I am safe. But still fearful

Very good improvements which is probably why no insulin. not a pro, but would of thought consistant 3 month averages of 7.5+ plus would insulin be considered. Any lower averages would run the risk of frequent hypos. Also insulin users are "advised" to aim for hba1c of 7.5 our lower. Obviously the lower the better. at the moment your meds seen to be doing the job. Keep up the good work :)

Agreed with Brett, my last HBA1C was 45 so my consultant said he won't put me on insulin due to the hypo risks and also because the amount I would need to inject would be negligible and not worth the hypo risk in the first place...

My next hba1c will not be as good as that as I'm getting fed up and haven't been as strict with my diet (burnout) and so I duno what will happen then....
