Blood Testing strips on prescription

Ailz posted a message about Type 2's and hypos, and a number of people replied raising the issue of getting testing strips from their GPs. Bowell posted an interesting link showing that the general recommendations from above reflect the thoughts that type 2's are wasting their time testing on certain medications, partly because there is not a risk of Hypos.
Even if that were true, and it would seem it isn't, I wish the medical "experts" would understand that testing isn't just about Hypos; that it's also about finding out what different foods, cooked in different ways, eaten at different times, followed by different exercise regimes, do to our blood sugar levels. Only that way can we avoid the complications, and subsequently even greater costs to the NHS, that Diabetes can bring. Do you think we make this clear enough to them, or do we need some sort of petition signed by us all somehow to be sent to them?

It's more a type of 'hyper' that we're worried about than hypo. I worry if my bg goes up; I used to worry if it went low, but since going on low carb I'm finding that I don't suffer from shakes, sweats and so on when it goes below 4, which is something that used to happen, even 20 years before I was diagnosed, as it was for my father.

Hi Malcysykes 1, I certainly agree with everything you wrote and as a type 2, I would be very happy to sign some sort of petition. I am awaiting my review next week and expect to be refused blood testing strips now, Debra x
