My partner is 22 and type 1 for two years recently she has been having hypos at work, she had one after the other a few days ago and Iv noticed often she is just injecting without checking her blood first and telling me it will be okay, I don't want it to be like I'm telling her what to do with her diabetes but I worry that she maybe should be checking her blood rather than just injecting, help!
testing then injecting is the correct way to do it yes..........especially if she is using two separate insulin's, ie a multiple daily injection regime.....
it important to test even if she isn't on separate insulin's and only on a single insulin but I can understand how she maybe got into that habit if it was a single mixed insulin....
I don't know what kind of relationship you have with her but I would advise you keep trying to encourage her in the nicest way possible......
she should also sit down with her diabetic team to discuss what education is available for her to attend........
Thank you, she is on two separate insuline sand when she was first diagnosed she took to it so well and was managing it great, but after the honeymoon period she was down and depressed and anxious it's better now, don't get me wrong she stil has her down days which I totally understand, she fell out of her routine and her management slipped il support her in anyway that I can, thank you for your advice
She was in hospital a few weeks ago with high keytones and was advised to ring the diabetic team and speak to them but she didn't, she uses novo rapid and levemir
its just sounds like she has lost the motivation, but it also sounds like she may be missing the basic knowledge that would allow her to adjust her doses correctly, so that when she eats a lower carb meal she can reduce her dose and vice versa.....
do you know if they run any educational courses at her clinic......?
that would be something to ask the next time she is there........you could go with her if possible....
@Vanna21, it's no wonder she is having hypo's as you do need to know what your bg levels are doing, get her to register with the following, it's an on-line carb counting course for type 1's who use a basal/bolus insulin regime:
