I think it's largely at the discretion of the consultant based on the health of the individual at the time. That always seems to be the way, partly because certain blood tests are expensive and have to be justified.
Thanks all; I don't if this is usual but my consultant basically leaves me to get the blood tests from my GP practice ahead of my hospital appointment and the nurse at the GP practice never seems to have a clue which tests to run so I just wanted to make sure I was getting everything covered.

I also get my bloods taken at my gp practice and have a follow-up appointment with the Consultant.
I wouldn't worry too much about the nurse @pinewood, if they were missing something out the Consultant would soon pick-up on it and mention it to you or your gp practice,
The only additional thing I say when booking an appointment for my bloods to be taken is that its for a full lipid breakdown (cholesterol), with having a family history of CVD I like to know the breakdown to keep things in check.
