Can anyone set out the regular blood tests those with T1 diabetes should be having?

HbA1c, of course, but what are the others - for cholesterol etc.?

Is there a recommended frequency (assuming no issues with control) - e.g. every 6 months?

Many thanks

I think it's largely at the discretion of the consultant based on the health of the individual at the time. That always seems to be the way, partly because certain blood tests are expensive and have to be justified.

HbA1c, Kidney, Liver & Cholesterol checks are what I know of, not sure about the rest.

The checks should be annually at the very least, depends if your well controlled or if you have any issues as a result of the previous blood tests.

Thanks all; I don't if this is usual but my consultant basically leaves me to get the blood tests from my GP practice ahead of my hospital appointment and the nurse at the GP practice never seems to have a clue which tests to run so I just wanted to make sure I was getting everything covered.

Hi @pinewood i have just booked my bloods with my practice nurse, the consultant on my prievous visit told me what bloods i required.

They are Hba1C, TFT, Lipid profile and U & E's.

I also get my bloods taken at my gp practice and have a follow-up appointment with the Consultant.

I wouldn't worry too much about the nurse @pinewood, if they were missing something out the Consultant would soon pick-up on it and mention it to you or your gp practice,

The only additional thing I say when booking an appointment for my bloods to be taken is that its for a full lipid breakdown (cholesterol), with having a family history of CVD I like to know the breakdown to keep things in check.
