bloodless testing

Dear All, Does anyone know if there is a way of testing blood sugar levels without drawing blood? Recently my 84 yr old neighbour needed the emergency doctor because his blood sugar count was 13.1, when the doctor came to see him my neighbour said the doctor just put a small clamp on his finger and the doctor said he didn't need to prick his finger and his sugar level was 3.6. Has anyone else come across this device? Cheers G-ma

Not personally. Unless it is something that is being trialled I have no knowledge.

That sort of device described is usually for measuring oxygen saturation and the pulse rate. Are you sure the Doc didn't test the usual way first ? It would only have taken a second.

My neighbour is sure that the doctor didn't prick his finger because he commented that the doctor mentioned that he didn't need to prick his finger with this new device. I don't think the doctor did his blood sugar but that's just my personal opinion. G-ma
